A R Rahman’s Performance on Common Wealth Game 2010 India

Against all odds India stuns the world with the spectacular Commonwealth 2010 opening ceremony on Sunday evening (October 3,2010) to display its new vibrant, energetic and progressive avatar providing its guests from the Commonwealth nations a glimpse of its art and culture.

The Oscar-Grammy winner A. R. Rahman mesmerized 60,000 audiences at the ostentatious Commonwealth Games opening ceremony with his theme song performance of ‘Jeeyo Utho Badho Jeeto’.

The song which had received a lukewarm response earlier sounded quite peppy after it was tweaked.

The music Maestro was welcomed by a loud cheering crowd when he stepped on stage on Sunday night to perform the Commonwealth theme song. Dressed casually in white bandhgala jacket, denim and white shoes, Rahman scorched the stage with his rendition. Rahman as promised delivered a powerful performance with his composition and dancing to the tunes of the theme was a spectacular set of dancers, who managed to make it even more colorful with their performances.

After the performance of ‘Jeeyo Utho Badho Jeeto’, the Academy award winner then delivered his famous hit song ‘Jai Ho’, the song which got him the Oscars last year.

The audience included Prince Charles, his wife Camilla Parker Bowles, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, President Pratibha Patil and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and an estimated two billion people who watched the ceremony on live television around the world.
