63 TPP Prison inmates launch fast in Anuradhapura prisons
The inmates demand the cases filed against them be taken up in an expeditious manner. Prisons Spokesperson Thushara Upuldeniya stated that their demands have been directed to the Ministry of Justice.
63 TPPs detained in Three prisons are continuing their fasting protest. 43 TPPs of the Magazine prison are von their 4tyh day of fasting. Four of them are persons accused in the murder attempt on Sumanthiran case. 12 TPPs detained at Anuradhapura prison are on their fasting protest for 23rd day yesterday.
8 TPPs detained at Kandy prison are on their 3rd day of fasting yesterday. Four of TPPs, Seethagopal Arumugam,Rasathurai Jeyanthan, Thevasahayam Uthayakumar and Joseph Sebastian had been admitted to Prison hospital with deteriorated body condition. However, the 12 TPPs at Anuradhapura prison had rejected medical assistance and their body conditions are dangerously deteriorated.
The TPPs had gone into fasting demanding their cases be expedited or they be released after short term rehabilitation. A handbill campaign was held in front of the Central Bus Stand, Jaffna to make people aware of the fasting of the TPPs, under aegis of Mass movement for social equity and Lanka Teachers Association.. A symbolic fasting protest was held Batticaloa, in support of the fasting TPPs under the aegis of Thesaththin Vergal Organization.
